Every council has different rules — and you're tracking them all by hand

UK food truck operators trading across multiple councils deal with 300+ different council websites — each with different fees, forms, and renewal dates.

300+ different councils

Each with its own fees (£100–£1,500/yr), forms, requirements, and renewal dates for street trading licences.

Missed renewals = no trading

Trading without a valid street trading licence is a criminal offence. One lapsed renewal and you cannot legally trade in that area.

Multiple certificates to track

Gas safety, PAT testing, food hygiene, fire extinguisher inspections, insurance — each with separate expiry dates.

No software exists for this

NCASS provides advisory support but doesn't track licences. Most operators rely on spreadsheets, calendar reminders, or nothing at all.

Know exactly where you stand — across every council

StreetComply brings every licence, certificate, and insurance policy into one dashboard so you always know what's valid, what's expiring, and what needs action.

Never wonder which licences are current

Track street trading licences for every council you trade in. See fees, renewal dates, and application status at a glance.

Expiry alerts before you miss them

Get notified before any licence, gas certificate, PAT test, or insurance policy expires. No more calendar reminders in your phone.

See what each council needs — before you apply

Each council has different requirements. See exactly what each one needs — forms, fees, supporting documents — in one place.

Every certificate, one place

LPG inspection, PAT testing, fire extinguisher, food hygiene — track every certificate with expiry dates and renewal reminders.

Stay insured without the admin

Public liability, employer's liability, vehicle insurance — all with expiry alerts so you're never caught without cover.

Built for food truck operators

Designed for sole traders and micro businesses, not enterprise teams. Priced for food truck budgets, not corporate ones.

What changes when you stop tracking compliance by hand

Never lose a trading day to an expired licence

Automated expiry alerts mean you always have time to renew before a gap in coverage stops you from trading.

Save hours on council paperwork every month

Stop hunting through council websites for fee schedules and application forms. Everything you need for each council is in one place.

Trade confidently across new council areas

Expanding to a new borough or city? See exactly what that council requires before you commit — fees, forms, and timelines upfront.

Keep a complete audit trail for inspections

If an enforcement officer asks for your documentation, pull up every licence and certificate instantly from your phone — no rummaging through the glove box.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a street trading licence for my food truck?
In England and Wales, you need a street trading licence or consent from each council where you trade on public land. Each of the 300+ councils sets its own fees, forms, and renewal dates under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982. Trading without a valid licence is a criminal offence that can result in fines and confiscation of goods.
How much does a street trading licence cost in the UK?
Street trading licence fees vary from around £100 to over £1,500 per year depending on the council, the location, and whether you hold a licence or consent. London boroughs tend to charge the most, with Westminster and Camden among the highest. You need a separate licence for each council area where you trade.
Do I need to register my food business with every council I trade in?
No. Mobile food businesses only need to register once, with the council where the vehicle is stored overnight. This registration is free and must be done at least 28 days before you start trading. It covers all your trading locations. The per-council requirement applies to street trading licences, not food business registration.
What is the difference between a street trading licence and consent?
Councils designate streets as either "licence streets" or "consent streets" under the 1982 Act. A licence gives you a right to trade in a specific pitch once granted. Consent is discretionary — the council can refuse or revoke it more easily. The application process and fees differ between the two, and some councils use one system exclusively.
Do I need a street trading licence on private land?
Generally no — street trading licences apply to trading on public highways and designated streets. If you are trading on private land (such as a private car park, industrial estate, or event venue), you typically need the landowner's permission instead. However, some councils define "street" broadly, so check with the specific local authority.
What food safety certificates do I need for a food truck?
At minimum, you need a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate for every person handling food (available through accredited providers), an annual LPG gas safety inspection certificate if you use gas appliances, PAT testing for electrical equipment, and a fire extinguisher inspection. You also need public liability insurance and must maintain your Food Hygiene Rating Score.
How long does a street trading licence last?
Most councils issue street trading licences for 12 months, though some offer shorter-term options (daily, weekly, or monthly consents) for event traders. Renewal dates vary by council and are not standardised — missing a renewal means you cannot legally trade in that area until it is processed.
